On December 28th, the Ebenezer Power of God Assembles held a special celebration to present four Christian initiates to the church community following their completion of a faith-driven initiation process. The ceremony marked a departure from traditional initiation practices, focusing instead on Christian norms and values.

The initiates, Sibulele Mampofu, Libongwe Mabala, Siseko Mbusi, and Ikho Mbusi, underwent the program at the Butterworth Initiation School. Pastor M. Mampofu, who also served as their ikhankatha (guardian), emphasized the decision to adopt a Christian approach to initiation, citing the alarming number of deaths in traditional initiation schools.

A New Approach to Initiation
The minimum age for participants was set at 18 years, and the program featured approximately 12 intensive courses. Topics included respect, responsibility, goal setting, cleanliness, and gender respect. The program aimed to instill values that align with Christian teachings and moral integrity.

Pastor Zilwa, the guest speaker, delivered a powerful message to the initiates, emphasizing that circumcision should never be used to dishonor women. He condemned gender-based violence (GBV) and called for respect and dignity in all interactions.

Pastor Daniels provided a scriptural perspective, explaining that circumcision originates from the biblical book of Genesis, where God instructed the Israelites to circumcise their sons on the eighth day. He criticized the incorporation of beer and other substances into traditional practices, warning that such foundations could foster unhealthy behaviors among youth.
