“It’s been a build-up of struggle, of commitments and finally we did it for everyone that’s been part of the national team before us, with us and for the young girl that is still coming” said Refiloe Jane, Banyana Banyana captain.

Videos of celebration from the team members circulated all social media platforms and shared by a number of South Africans who were in celebratory mode.  History was made this past weekend.

Banyana Banyana team players urge South Africans to support them and to come on board to support women.

“I’ve tried many times as a player to win this medal. I got a silver in 2018, but this one is so sweet because we waited four years” says Banyana Banyana coach, Desiree Ellis.

“We made history, history” said one of the spectators in support of the team.
