The African National Congress (ANC) has welcomed the National Union of Mineworkers’ (NUM) firm rebuttal of a Sunday World article that claimed the union had “dumped” the ANC ahead of the 2026 municipal elections.

The ANC expressed appreciation for NUM’s clear reaffirmation of its commitment to the Tripartite Alliance and its rejection of any efforts to distort its position or undermine the unity of the Alliance. The ruling party commended the union for defending the historic bonds between the two organisations, which were built during the liberation struggle and remain rooted in a shared mission to serve the working class and advance the National Democratic Revolution.
