  1. What Is the SASSA Old Age Pension?

This is a monthly financial grant provided by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) to help older citizens who are not financially secure. It’s available to qualifying individuals aged 60 and above.

  1. Who Qualifies for the Older Person’s Grant?

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee living in SA
  • Be 60 years or older
  • Not receive any other personal social grant
  • Not live in a state-funded institution
  • Pass a means test:
    • Single: Income ≤ R86,280/year, assets ≤ R1,227,600
    • Married: Combined income ≤ R172,560/year, assets ≤ R2,455,200

As of April 2025:

  • R2,310 per month for people aged 60–74
  • R2,330 per month for those aged 75 and older

Visit your nearest SASSA office with:
