In an exciting milestone, KwaziThina Publishers, has released the results of its annual writing competition, Africa Teen Authors Book Initiative (ATABI). This year’s competition saw a record-breaking 164 participants from 27 African countries, including one entry from Belgium and Russia from African in the diaspora. The theme, “The Africa We Want,” resonated with teens from diverse backgrounds, who shared their stories, hopes, and dreams for the continent.

The International Writing Program now in its fourth year, has seen a significant increase in participation, with a remarkable 50 stories selected for publication in two anthology books – one in English and one in French. This marks a first for the competition, which has previously only been published in English.
The adjudication team, comprising experts from 24 countries, had the challenging task of selecting the top stories from a pool of talented writers.
The top 10 winners include three young writers from Lusikisiki, a testament to the rich literary talent in South Africa.
The Africa Teen Authors Book Initiative has become a beacon of
hope and inspiration for young writers across the continent. The books offer a unique platform for teens to share their experiences, perspectives, and creativity, fostering a sense of community and connection as well as cultural exchange among African youth.
The two anthology books will be published in September 2024, featuring the 50 selected stories. This achievement is a testament to the power of storytelling and the boundless potential of African youth.

“Our top 10, in both French and English, will be hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco Academy, featuring a 6-member panel of adjudicators, on November 15, 2024, at its headquarters in Rabat. What’s even more interesting is that 3 out of the 4 South Africans in the top 10 hail from Lusikisiki.” says Nomawele Njongo
