In the rhythmic heart of Bizana, a rising artist and sound engineer, Madoda Samkelo Damoyi, known by his stage name Seng’Nyathi, is orchestrating a unique symphony that blends passion, talent, and a drive for community upliftment.

Born in the rural areas of Ludeke, Bizana, Seng’Nyathi’s musical journey began at the age of 11. Fate led him to a producer who, unfortunately, succumbed to the harsh realities of addiction. Undeterred, Seng’Nyathi turned adversity into opportunity, embarking on a solo mission to learn the intricacies of recording and production. Armed with resilience and a growing fervor for music, he invested in his own equipment, a decision that would pave the way for his dual role as both artist and sound engineer.

Bizana, though deeply rooted in Seng’Nyathi’s identity, has become a launching pad for his aspirations. With an eye on recognition and a longing for more substantial support, Seng’Nyathi has decided to relocate, seeking an environment that values the local artist as much as the big names.

The decision to relocate is not without reason. Seng’Nyathi sheds light on the challenges faced by local artists in Bizana, where even prominent events often sideline their contributions. “Even if they host big events, we don’t get paid as local artists. They are more focused on big artists than us,” he laments, highlighting the need for a more inclusive and supportive local music scene.

Seng’Nyathi wears the hat of a studio owner, an endeavor that has become a haven for budding artists in his community. The studio not only provides a creative space but also addresses the financial barriers many artists face. Offering affordable rates, and at times even recording for free, Seng’Nyathi ensures that economic constraints don’t stifle artistic expression.

Reflecting on his commitment to community growth, Seng’Nyathi shares, “I make sure each and every artist that I work with is recognized. After mixing and mastering, I suggest the artist create a link for recognition and potential opportunities.”

One shining example of this collaborative success is the artist Gemini from Bizana. Seng’Nyathi produced a piano track titled “VUMA” for Gemini, which not only earned acceptance on MTV Base but also played numerous times, amplifying the reach of local talent.

As Seng’Nyathi paves his way forward, he emphasizes the importance of uniqueness in the artistic journey. “As an artist, you must be very unique and come with your own sound in the game,” he asserts, emphasizing the value of individuality in a crowded musical landscape.

Seng’Nyathi extends his passion beyond the artistic realm, balancing dreams with a practical business mindset. Charging R150 per song, he ensures that fellow artists can continue chasing their dreams without financial constraints hindering their progress.

In the rhythmic pulse of Seng’Nyathi’s journey, Bizana remains a cherished starting point, but the melody he seeks stretches beyond borders, resonating with the dreams and aspirations of artists and communities alike.
