  • Launch of the Schoolboy Syllabus Teachers’ Training Programme: On September 8, 2025, teachers and facilitators began a three-day training at Nyandeni Great Place to address issues related to traditional male circumcision and promote responsible manhood.
  • Partnership and Community Involvement: The programme follows the launch of a partnership between Nyandeni Great Place and Walter Sisulu University, emphasizing community and school involvement in guiding boys safely into manhood.
  • Objectives of the Schoolboy Project: The project aims to equip schoolboys with knowledge, health behaviors, and life skills to prevent deaths and complications from traditional circumcision while instilling positive values.

On 8 September 2025, teachers and facilitators arrived at the Nyandeni Great Palace for the Schoolboy Syllabus Teachers’ Training Programme. This emphasizes day one of three of the training, following last week’s official launch of the partnership between the Nyandeni Great Place and Walter Sisulu University. The Schoolboy project is designed to equip schoolboys with knowledge, attitudes, health behaviour, and life skills needed to prevent deaths and complications linked to traditional male circumcision while promoting values of responsible manhood in the Nyandeni Local Municipality under the OR Tambo region.

Majesty King Ndamase Ndamase said, “It’s been a while since we have been trying to solve the problems around our tradition of male circumcision. I am glad the teachers are involved in this project because we have been going around schools talking about the beauty and dangers of our tradition. This is the start and I hope it will not end here at Nyandeni Great Place but reach other places as well until we have solved the problems surrounding our tradition.”

The programme equips Life Orientation teachers with tools aligned with the Sibuyisela Umdlanga Komkhulu initiative to ensure schools and communities take a leading role in guiding boys safely into manhood. Schools currently in training include Makaziwe SPS, Pondolwendlovu SPS, Nyandeni JSS, Mthomde JSS, Nkqwiliso SPS, Rainy SPS, Zinkumbini JSS, Zwelicacile PS, and Nonesi SPS.
