Nelson Mandela University has been commended by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) for its collaboration with Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges and for creating articulation pathways for graduates from these institutions.

The recognition followed a recent oversight visit by DHET officials to the University.

What the DHET Said

Acting Director-General at the DHET, Ms Thembisa Futshane, praised the University for being among the first institutions to allow National Certificate (Vocational) (NCV) graduates access into its academic space.

“The university was one of the first to allow NCV graduates into its space. I applaud you for your good work and (urge) you to continue by working with community colleges which are the babies of the sector,” she said.

Futshane also suggested exploring the establishment of a research chair focused on community colleges at the University.
