Two teenagers, aged 17 and 18, have been arrested for the murder of a young police officer, Constable Callan Andrews, in a case that has shocked both the law enforcement community and residents across the Eastern Cape.

Constable Andrews had been in service for just three months before his life was tragically cut short. The South African Police Service (SAPS) has launched an intensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, with updates expected as more information becomes available.

The murder has sparked widespread concern, prompting Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene, to reaffirm SAPS’s commitment to tackling crime and ensuring justice is served swiftly.

“This is a painful and unacceptable tragedy,” said a SAPS spokesperson. “Our officers put their lives on the line every day. We will not rest until justice is done.”

SAPS has called on the community to assist with any information that may aid the ongoing investigation and lead to a successful prosecution.

The death of Constable Andrews serves as a somber reminder of the risks faced by South Africa’s law enforcement officers, particularly in regions plagued by violent crime.
