Spearheaded by Colonel Ketye and executed by female officers from the Amathole District SAPS, the operation focused on known crime hotspots. It involved a coordinated mix of stop-and-search operations, roadblocks, and intelligence-driven raids. The multi-agency effort also included traffic services and other law enforcement partners.

The arrested individuals, aged between 20 and 33, are facing a range of serious charges — including drug possession and dealing, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and being in possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Police spokespersons confirmed that the success of the operation reflects SAPS’s commitment to community safety, especially as gender-based violence and organised crime remain major concerns across the Eastern Cape.

“This operation sends a strong message that crime, especially crimes that affect women and the vulnerable, will be met with firm action,” said Colonel Ketye.

The SAPS has called on the community to continue working closely with police by reporting suspicious activities and helping create safer neighbourhoods.
