A South African Police Service (SAPS) sergeant was arrested after a police raid at his Pretoria North home uncovered firearms, ammunition, and official police documents.
What happened
Sergeant Fannie Hezekiel Nkosi, attached to a Gauteng organised crime unit, was arrested on Thursday following a search by the Special Investigations Task Team.
According to reports, police found:
- Official police case dockets from multiple stations
- Around 490 rounds of unlicensed ammunition
- A state-owned hand grenade
- Several firearms, including pistols, a rifle, and a shotgun
Some of the firearms were reportedly not stored in a safe.
Nkosi is already on suspension and has been testifying at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
Why it matters

It also comes amid ongoing investigations into alleged links between police officers and organised crime networks.
According to Pondoland Times analysis, cases involving police officials and illegal firearms often point to broader risks of corruption and evidence tampering.
