The National Spokesperson for the South African Police Service (SAPS), Brigadier Athlenda Mathe turned to social media to confirm the arrest of a boy seen in a viral video assaulting an elderly woman.

According to Brigadier Mathe, the Western Cape SAPS arrested the 19-year-old boy on Wednesday evening after successfully tracking him down to Wallacedene in Kraaifontein.

The boy is scheduled to appear in Blue Downs Magistrates Court on assault allegations.

In a three-minute disturbing video that recently surfaced online, a boy is seen assaulting and cursing the elderly woman, who is allegedly his grandmother.

The public’s response to the video has been one of exasperation. Social media users have openly expressed anger and shock at the boy’s misdeed, calling for justice to be served swiftly, irrespective of the suspect’s age.
