SADTU Condemns Killing of Four Teachers at Tabankulu School

Four teachers were fatally attacked at Tabankulu Primary School on Tuesday, prompting a strong response from SADTU and renewed calls for school safety measures.

Four female teachers were killed on 23 January 2026 at Tabankulu Primary School in the Gamalandidwe Gwayi region of the Eastern Cape.

The South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) confirmed the incident in a media statement, calling the attack “tragic” and “disturbing”.

Official Response

SADTU in the Eastern Cape condemned the killings and described the event as a major loss for the school and the Tabankulu community. The union reiterated that schools must be protected as safe zones for teaching and learning.

The statement called for:
