A 62-year-old man is due in court after allegedly beating his son to death in Ngojini, Ngqeleni. Police say the boy, 14, had used his father’s bank card without permission.
What Happened
A 62-year-old man from Ngojini in Ngqeleni has been arrested for murder following the death of his 14-year-old son.
According to police, the father allegedly assaulted the teenager with a sjambok and stick around 22:00 on Monday, 5 January 2026. The boy was reportedly tied with a rope and left inside the house overnight.
He was found dead by 04:00 the next morning, Tuesday, 6 January 2026.
The incident is believed to have been triggered by the son using the father’s bank card without permission to buy goods from a local spaza shop.
Official Response
Ngqeleni police arrested the suspect shortly after responding to the scene. He is due to appear in the Ngqeleni Magistrate’s Court.
Eastern Cape Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Thandiswa Kupiso, condemned the violence.
“This is a gruesome and heartbreaking tragedy. While we understand the frustrations of parenthood, violence is never the answer,” said Major General Kupiso.
She urged parents and guardians to seek constructive methods of discipline and to avoid actions that place children’s lives at risk.
