A 69-year-old medical doctor has been arrested in Madadeni after he was accused of sexually assaulting several female patients at a local hospital between August 2025 and April 2026, in a case that has shocked the KwaZulu-Natal medical and policing community.
The arrest was carried out on Tuesday, 28 April 2026, by detectives from the South African Police Service Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit, working together with Madadeni police officers, at the doctor’s workplace.
Police allege that the suspect inappropriately touched patients during consultations, including their breasts and private parts, and in some instances allegedly forced victims into sexual acts. These allegations remain under investigation and have not yet been tested in court.
According to authorities, the matter came to light after whistleblower anonymously alerted police about the alleged behaviour. Following the tip-off, FCS detectives initiated an operation which led to victims being identified and opening formal cases, paving the way for the arrest.
At this stage, investigators say the case involves four known complainants, but have not ruled out the possibility of additional victims. Police have confirmed that if more survivors come forward, further charges may be added as the investigation continues.
The South African Police Service has welcomed the cooperation of the whistleblower and urged any other possible victims to report similar incidents, assuring that all information will be treated confidentially.
While the suspect has been arrested, he is expected to appear in court soon on multiple charges related to sexual assault. Police have not yet released details regarding bail or legal representation.
The case has sparked concern in the Madadeni community, particularly given the position of trust held by medical professionals. Community members have expressed shock, with calls growing for stronger safeguards in public healthcare facilities to protect patients from abuse.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the full number of potential victims beyond the four complainants, and the allegations are still subject to ongoing investigation and court proceedings.
Investigations are continuing, and police have indicated that the case may expand as more information becomes available.
