The 42-year-old sergeant was shot and killed in front of his house on Sunday morning at around five in the morning, according to the South African Police Service (SAPS).
At the time of the shooting event, he was not on duty.
According to information provided by Lieutenant Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa, the spokesperson for the Eastern Cape police, the policeman is suspected of having been shot in front of his home at NU11b, Mdantsane, outside of East London, by unidentified assailants.
“When the police arrived, they discovered that he had upper body bullet wounds on his body.
“They found out during the investigation that his vehicle was still there and that nothing had been taken from his belongings.
” According to Mawisa, the probe includes the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. “There has been no arrest.
The matter has been forwarded right away to the Hawks unit of the Directorate of Priority Crime and Investigation for additional examination.
Police officers are tasked with fighting crime, thus it is startling and frustrating that they are becoming the faceless victims of ruthless criminals, according to Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene, the regional police commissioner.
She urged members of the public to come forward with any information that would help apprehend those responsible.
“We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the sergeant and the colleagues, and may his soul rest in peace,” Nene said.
