On 28 May 2025, Cangci Comprehensive Technical High School in Mbizana came alive with vibrant energy as it hosted its annual Talent Showcase, bringing together learners, alumni, and local partners in a celebration of youth identity, creativity, and empowerment.
Organised by the school in collaboration with Muzinduku Youth Development and the Cangci Alumni, the event was themed “Embracing Identity, Championing Equality, and Building a Resilient Society.” It offered learners an opportunity to explore and express their individuality through a wide range of activities that addressed critical social themes.
Participants engaged in debates on topics such as gender-based violence, environmental change, and patriotism. They also took part in book reviews, drama performances, monologues, TV and radio news reading simulations, and sports analysis inspired by recent matches. Other highlights included research and innovation showcases, technical career exhibitions, choral presentations, and expressive dance pieces that captured pride, identity, and social cohesion.
The event was not just about performance—it was about purpose. Prizes such as laptops, calculators, and school uniform vouchers were awarded to learners to support their academic and creative development. “We want to show learners that everyone has a purpose, and even those who may not have material possessions should feel free to participate, express themselves, and connect with others,” said Zikhona Mafumbatha during the event.
The initiative is part of an ongoing partnership between the school, Bizana Walk Shopping Centre, the Department of Education, and the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality to support learner development beyond the classroom.
Sponsors expressed interest in returning in 2026 and called on the school to consider formally introducing Visual Arts as a subject to nurture creative talent year-round.
Closing the day’s proceedings, Mr. Hlongwe delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, acknowledging the school leadership, alumni, municipal officials, parents, and the learners themselves. Special recognition was given to Muzi Nduku for making the initiative possible.
The showcase left a lasting impression on the community, reinforcing the idea that young people—when given a platform and support—can become powerful voices for change.
