The United Democratic Movement (UDM) has raised concerns over the African National Congress’s (ANC) sudden surge in service delivery and community engagement in the lead-up to elections. UDM Secretary General, Yongama Zigebe, has labelled the ANC’s efforts as “hypocritical” and “mere electioneering tactics”.
Zigebe notes that the ANC’s sudden transformation, marked by prioritised tasks like grass cutting and waste removal, the disappearance of load shedding, and numerous building handovers, appears timed perfectly with the upcoming elections. This raises questions about the sincerity of these efforts and whether they represent genuine change or mere political posturing.
The UDM urges voters to critically evaluate these actions and demand real, lasting change that benefits all South Africans. Zigebe emphasizes that sustainable progress requires consistent effort and genuine commitment, not just temporary measures aimed at securing votes.
The UDM also highlights the historical context and previous patterns of behaviour by the ANC, which cast doubt on the sincerity of their efforts. The party’s failure to effectively oversee municipalities and address issues of underperformance and non-compliance has led to a systemic issue of inadequate checks and balances within government structures.
In conclusion, the UDM calls on voters to hold political parties accountable and demand tangible actions and policies that prioritise the needs of citizens over political gain. The ANC’s long-term actions will speak louder than words, and it’s crucial to look beyond mere electioneering tactics and demand genuine change.
