In an effort to enhance service delivery to the communities within the district, Alfred Nzo District Municipality recently allocated a fleet of vehicles to its workforce. The initiative included the provision of seventeen bakkies for water services, two bakkies for Disaster Management, and five water trucks, one of which was generously donated by the Development Bank of South Africa (DBSA). Additionally, six VW Polo vehicles were designated for administration duties within the Municipality. This endeavor aligns with governmental plans aimed at addressing the backlog in providing clean drinking water to the Alfred Nzo District community members.
Honorable Ntombovuyo Nkopane, Member of the Provincial Executive Committee (MEC) for Public Works and Infrastructure in the Eastern Cape, commended the District Municipality for prioritizing community needs in service delivery. Nkopane also highlighted various outreach programs conducted by her department within the Alfred Nzo District in recent days.
Executive Mayor Cllr Vukile Mhlelembana expressed gratitude for the proactive role played by the technical arm of the district in implementing resolutions of the district council. Mhlelembana stated, ‘More than 22 million has been invested in the procurement of this fleet. These vehicles will be strategically distributed across the district’s satellite offices within all local municipalities, facilitating expedited service delivery to community members.’
Recognizing the criticality of the water crisis, exacerbated by shrinking national fiscal spending, Mayor Mhlelembana emphasized the municipality’s unwavering commitment to addressing community challenges. ‘As the district council, we bear the responsibility of providing credible water solutions to our communities. This fleet represents our ongoing efforts to meet these challenges head-on,’ he affirmed.”
