Raising Awareness about GBV and LGBTQ

The 9th of august marks 66 years since the march to union building in 1956. The women of that time marched under different circumstances, including gender parity.

Despites the years of celebrating women’s day, there is still a long way to walk in raising awareness about women’s equality and lobby for accelerated gender imparity because, women of this generation live under the worse circumstances judging on the 41 679 cases of rape reported between 1 April 2021 and 31 March 2022.

EFFSC NMU Pride Walk

On the 9th of August, The Nelson Mandela University Effsc lead src had a pride walk celebrating how far the (LGBTQ) and community has come and in taking action against issues that affects (LGBTQ), which then later followed by a candlelight ceremony to raise awareness about Gender Based Violence and Femicide.
The secretary general of the student’s representative council Sinethezekile Mpanza says the cries of south African women falls into a deaf ears and she has lost hope in police minister Bheki Cele who thinks that a women is luck to be raped by one man while others are raped by two.

‘’To anyone who is a victim of (GBV) and scared to speak out we are here, we will wait for you because we understand the psychological trauma that you must be going through’’, says Sinethezekile while address students during the night candlelight ceremony.

‘’There is a community of man and woman that is waiting for you and is going to support you’’ she concluded.
