The postponement allows the State to provide confirmatory documents from the Department of Home Affairs. It also gives the defence time to obtain further instructions from the accused.

What happened?

The case against Mugabe and Matonhodze was before the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.

The State requested a postponement to secure documentary evidence from the Department of Home Affairs. In addition, the defence indicated it needed further consultation time with the accused.

Why it matters to you

In this case, the charges include attempted murder and firearm-related offences, which are serious under South African law. Therefore, procedural fairness and complete documentation are essential before the trial proceeds.
