A joint roadblock operation at Addo Road in Nelson Mandela Bay has resulted in over R57,000 in traffic fines. The operation was led by the Metro Police, SAPS, and municipal Traffic Services, with oversight from Acting Executive Mayor Cllr Thembinkosi Mafana.
The safety initiative comes ahead of the busy holiday season, aiming to reduce crashes and improve law enforcement visibility.

Offences and penalties issued
During the Addo Road roadblock, law enforcement officers issued R57,500 in fines for various violations, including:
- Driving without a licence
- Operating unregistered vehicles
- Faulty or broken lights and tyres
- Neglecting to wear seat belts
- Driving with missing number plates
In addition, one vehicle was impounded for displaying a fake number plate. An investigation is under way.

According to the municipality, the roadblock was a proactive step to ensure that residents and tourists are safe this holiday period.
“It’s about preventing crashes, saving lives, and making our roads safer for everyone,” the statement said.
