As part of its #SaferFestiveSeason campaign, SAPS Eastern Cape launched joint compliance checks at liquor outlets in KwaZakhele, Nelson Mandela Bay, on Sunday, 21 December 2025.
What Happened
Police and metro officers inspected several outlets for valid liquor licences and adherence to health and safety laws. The operation focused on stopping illegal alcohol sales, especially to underage patrons.
A number of taverns were praised for full compliance. However, others were cautioned and may face further action.
Official Response
“The goal is to ensure safe trading and community wellbeing over the festive period,” said SAPS. Authorities urged outlet owners to follow regulations and encouraged residents to report illegal sales.
