The Alfred Nzo District Municipality has officially handed over a new Information Technology (IT) Centre to Ward 05, representing a major step toward digital inclusion in the area.
The handover took place during an Open Council Day held in Matshona. Community members, ward representatives, and municipal officials attended the event.
Access to Technology for Local Communities
The IT Centre is equipped with desktop computers and basic digital infrastructure. It will give residents access to online information, digital skills training, and learning resources.
For many residents, this is the first time they will have free access to computers within their community. As a result, the centre is expected to support learners, job seekers, and small entrepreneurs.
Supporting Skills and Economic Opportunities
Municipal officials said the centre will help residents improve computer literacy and prepare for the digital economy. In addition, it will support activities such as online applications, research, and basic training programmes.
The initiative aims to reduce barriers faced by rural communities when accessing technology. It also supports broader efforts to improve education and economic participation in the district.
Municipality Commits to Digital Inclusion
The Alfred Nzo District Municipality said the project reflects its commitment to improving service delivery and quality of life. Leaders expressed confidence that the centre will become a space for learning, innovation, and youth development.
Meanwhile, community members welcomed the project and called for ongoing support to keep the facility operational and accessible.
The IT Centre is expected to serve Ward 05 residents for years to come, strengthening digital access and local development.
