Five people died in a multi-vehicle crash on the N10 between Cookhouse and Gqeberha on 30 November 2025. The collision involved two trucks and a bakkie and occurred on a remote section of the route. Emergency services remained on the scene for most of the day as the situation stayed fluid.
According to the Eastern Cape Department of Transport, poor cellphone network coverage in the area delayed the flow of information from first responders.
Official Response
The Department said it is working closely with law enforcement, EMS, and other stakeholders to verify details. Further updates will be released once the full circumstances of the crash are confirmed. Authorities noted that the location and terrain are contributing to slower information gathering.
The Department also confirmed that the road remains closed to traffic.
Community Impact
The crash caused heavy delays for motorists travelling between Cookhouse and Gqeberha.
Transport officials appealed for patience and advised drivers to use alternative routes. More information, including the identities of the deceased, will be released once next-of-kin notifications are completed.
