The ANC in the Nelson Mandela Region held its first Regional Executive Committee (REC) meeting following its 7th Elective Conference on 14–16 November 2025. The sitting took place earlier this week. Leaders adopted a renewed programme focused on service delivery, unity, and organisational rebuilding across the metro.
What Happened
The newly elected REC said the region has reached a decisive moment. Leaders stressed that the organisation must return to “selflessness, discipline, and duty” to restore public trust.
The meeting also highlighted concerns about recent instability and internal divisions that weakened the ANC’s work in the metro. As a result, the committee adopted a firm plan to strengthen structures, improve oversight, and refocus councillors on priority service-delivery programmes.
The REC further emphasised that governance improvements must link directly to ward-level needs. This includes monitoring performance, enforcing accountability, and aligning councillors with the National Executive Committee’s Seven Pillars of Service Delivery.
Official Response
Leaders described the region’s new direction as a “point of renewal.”
“We must rebuild a movement rooted in discipline and service. Our duty is to the people of this metro,” officials said during the closing briefing.
In addition, the region confirmed plans to launch the MyANCMyWard Service Delivery Reporting Hotline. The platform aims to improve transparency and allow residents to report service-delivery issues directly.
The REC also reaffirmed its full support for the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children, noting that community safety and protection of vulnerable groups remain core priorities.
To execute daily operations, the REC elected seven members to the Regional Working Committee (RWC), including Samkelo Dlulane, Eugene Johnson, Wandisile Jikeka, and others. Sub-committee conveners were also appointed across key areas such as Policy, Economic Transformation, Health, Peace and Stability, and Communication.
Community Impact
The committee said its renewed agenda will focus on rebuilding trust and improving governance across all wards. This includes more visible leadership, stronger oversight, and frequent engagement with residents.
Meanwhile, the region is preparing for its Regional Induction Programme, which will strengthen cadre development and involve movement veterans in organisational renewal. Leaders said the work ahead is urgent as the metro prepares for the 2026 Local Government Elections.
