On 3 November 2025, the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) held the Eastern Cape Municipal Capital Grants Review Session in East London. The session focused on improving planning and speeding up service delivery across municipalities. The session brought together municipal managers, technical directors, and key sector partners to assess performance and strengthen collaboration.

What Happened

The meeting included officials from the Department of Water and Sanitation, MISA, the Department of Electricity, and the Provincial Treasury. The focus was on improving planning and ensuring that municipal capital grants are used efficiently.

Official Response

In his address, CoGTA MEC Zolile Williams emphasized the Risk-Adjusted Strategy (RAS) as a key tool to fast-track municipal spending and enhance service delivery. He warned that under his leadership, no municipality will be allowed to underperform. “We must ensure every rand spent delivers real value for our communities,” said MEC Williams.
