Joe Gqabi District Executive Mayor Nomvuyo Mposelwa today handed over new water and sanitation infrastructure to the communities of Boomplaas, Ndingishe, and Jozana. The hand-overs marked a significant step in the district’s plan to expand reliable water access across all wards. The event took place within the Senqu Local Municipality.
What Happened
The district, working with its implementing agency JoGEDA, completed several development projects valued at R27 million. The work focuses on clean water supply, improved sanitation, and community-level infrastructure. Local labour played a central role, ensuring that job creation and skills development benefited residents directly.
Official Response
Mayor Mposelwa said the progress reflects the municipality’s commitment to service delivery and strong partnerships with traditional leaders.
“These projects are designed to uplift our communities and improve access to basic services,” she said. She also urged residents to protect the infrastructure.
“We must report vandalism and theft. These resources belong to the people, and we must safeguard them.”
Community Impact
The new systems will ease water shortages, reduce long walking distances for households, and strengthen public health. Moreover, the upgrades are expected to support future development as the district aims for universal clean water access.
