A large multi-stakeholder roadblock operation unfolded on 21 November at Phakade Junction, led by Umzimvubu Mayor Zukiswa Ndevu. The operation brought together local councillors, the Citizen and Community Services Standing Committee, and several law-enforcement agencies. It forms part of the municipality’s intensified festive-season safety campaign.
What Happened
The operation united the Provincial Traffic Department, Umzimvubu Traffic Services, SAPS, Home Affairs Immigration Services, and the Alfred Nzo District Disaster Management Office. Together, they checked vehicle compliance, monitored road safety, and verified immigration documents.
Officials also used the roadblock to share messages condemning gender-based violence, aligning with the national 16 Days of Activism campaign.
Official Response
Mayor Ndevu said the coordinated effort reflected the municipality’s resolve to protect residents.
“Today’s operation was part of our ongoing commitment to strengthening road safety and protecting the wellbeing of our communities,” she said. “By working collaboratively with our law-enforcement partners, we ensure that every motorist is compliant, responsible, and contributes to a safer Umzimvubu.”
She thanked the public for its cooperation throughout the operation.
