Mbhashe Executive Mayor Cllr Samkelo Janda today led a Cleanup Campaign along the N2 in Dutywa, marking a renewed effort to keep the municipality clean, attractive, and environmentally safe. The drive brought together municipal teams and community members for a coordinated day of action.
What Happened
The campaign focused on clearing litter, cutting overgrown grass, and improving the appearance of public spaces throughout Dutywa. Teams worked across key points of the town, ensuring that high-traffic areas along the N2 received priority attention.
Official Response
Welcoming participants, Mayor Janda stressed the need for consistent maintenance.
“We must protect our towns by keeping them clean every day, not only during campaigns,” he said. He also urged law enforcement to intensify awareness efforts around illegal dumping and to hold offenders accountable.
Community Impact
Residents say the cleanup improves public health, boosts local pride, and creates a safer environment for pedestrians and businesses. The initiative is also expected to support tourism and encourage community involvement in long-term upkeep.
