More than 600 undocumented migrants were arrested during a joint law enforcement operation in Mayfair, Johannesburg. The raid took place from 17 November 2025 and involved Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), SAPS, and the Department of Home Affairs. What Happened?

JMPD led an intelligence-driven raid in Mayfair after ongoing concerns about overcrowded and hijacked buildings. Officers arrested 217 women and 413 men found without legal documentation.

“This was a clear demonstration of what agencies can achieve when they work together decisively,” said Mgcini Tshwaku, MMC for Public Safety.
