Legislature Portfolio Committees under the Social Needs Cluster met today to strengthen oversight on departmental performance. The Portfolio Committee on Health, led by Honourable Koliswa Vimbayo, and the Portfolio Committee on Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture (SRAC), chaired by Honourable Tumeka Gaya, convened physically. Both MECs appeared before their respective committees to present their 2024/25 Annual Reports and 2025/26 Half-Year Performance and Financial Reports.
What Happened
During the Health Committee session, Members placed the department’s performance in the spotlight. They examined issues within the health administration sub-programme, including transformation efforts, internal management systems, and compliance with the 30-day invoice payment requirement. Members also questioned progress on improving operational efficiency across the department.
In the SRAC Committee, MEC Ngogo briefed Members on sport development, cultural programmes, community recreation support, and museum and heritage work. She also outlined the department’s financial standing and the resources required to meet current provincial targets.
Official Response
Committee Members engaged the MECs and senior officials on the substance of the reports. Discussions focused on accountability, budget management and the alignment between departmental plans and actual delivery. The committees sought clarity on the pace of improvement and the ability of both departments to meet their obligations for the 2025/26 financial year.
