Blasting is scheduled as part of SANRAL’s road development work along the N2 national route. The exact blasting point is located 13.7 km from KwaBhaca, en route to EmaXesibeni (formerly Mount Ayliff).

The operation will temporarily close or restrict this section of the road to ensure the safety of motorists and workers on site. SANRAL issued the alert on 15 September 2025 to give the public time to prepare alternative travel plans.

Mbulelo Peterson, SANRAL’s Eastern Cape Provincial Head, stated:
“Motorists are asked to plan their trips accordingly, consider alternative routes and to use caution when making use of the road.”
SANRAL also apologised for any inconvenience the blasting might cause and confirmed that the intervention is part of essential infrastructure improvement work in the province.
