Popular traditional healer Makhotso Mofokeng, known as Gogo Maweni, appeared in court on Monday to face charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, dating back to 2019.
The courtroom was packed, with Mofokeng’s family members seated anxiously on one side. In contrast, Mofokeng appeared relaxed as she entered the dock.
Before proceedings began, Mofokeng’s attorney, Marcia Makuse, attempted to block media coverage of the case. However, Magistrate Rozelle Khaye dismissed this application, allowing media to record and film the proceedings.
Gogo Maweni made her first appearance at the Protea Magistrate Court today facing assault GBH charges from 2019.
Her matter was remanded to next Monday for bail application.
