The Alfred Nzo District Municipality will commemorate Nelson Mandela Day on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at KwaJali Village Maquthu Preschool in the Winnie Madikizela Mandela Local Municipality. The event aims to celebrate Mandela’s legacy by giving back to the community, particularly vulnerable children and underprivileged families.

Executive Mayor Cllr. Vukile Mhlelembana will hand over school equipment to Maquthu Preschool, aligning with Mandela’s passion for education.

“Education is one of the key priorities that was close to Mandela’s heart,” said Mhlelembana. “We are following in his footsteps to ensure that children receive better education from a young age.”

The event is part of the global Nelson Mandela International Day celebrations, declared by the United Nations in 2009. The day encourages collective volunteerism and selfless contributions to restore dignity and empower communities.

Media houses are invited to attend the event, which will take place at 10 am on August 8, 2024, at KwaJali Village Maquthu Preschool.
