In a bid to realize his lifelong dream of becoming a radio presenter, Bulelani Matshoba, hailing from Mthayise locality in KwaMadiba, Bizana, is vying for top honors in the Tru FM Presenter Search competition. With a passion for radio that ignited in his early years, Bulelani is calling on his followers and fans to rally behind him and secure his victory.
Bulelani’s journey into the realm of radio commenced as a young listener in a household where the radio was the primary source of information. His admiration for radio presenters and news readers sparked a desire to understand the technicalities of the medium. Recalling his early influences, he mentions, “I used to listen to Sanuse Nqoloba, Sindile Nkangana, Joe Maruping, Jabulani Sibisi, Thobile Madlakane, Siphiwo Dumeko, Themba Khumalo, and Fikile Lubisi to name a few.”
Undeterred by the limited information available in rural areas, Bulelani’s determination led him to pursue his dream. He actively participated in auditions for Ugu Youth Radio in Port Shepstone in 2016, marking the beginning of his radio journey. Joining Inkonjane Community Radio in 2017 as a volunteer, Bulelani has since dedicated himself to the world of community media.
Bulelani, who has now spent eight years in radio, expressed his love for both radio and writing. “I love these two jobs, but if I had to choose, radio would be my first choice because of the connection it establishes with the audience. It was my first love,” he shares.
As he competes in the Tru FM Presenter Search, Bulelani sees this opportunity as a breakthrough that could change his life. Beyond showcasing his radio skills, he aims to dispel misconceptions about his knowledge of sports due to a strict upbringing. “I will show everyone how much I know about sports,” he affirms.
Highlighting the importance of community media, Bulelani emphasizes its role as the voice of the people. “Community media should be the first preference of the community because it talks to their audience closely and about what they can relate to. We write and broadcast about those villages, and we are their voice when no one else can speak on their behalf.”
Expressing gratitude for the support he has received, Bulelani calls on his followers to continue voting for him by sending an SMS with “Sport2” to 39721. Additionally, he welcomes contributions of any amount or airtime to aid in the voting process.
As Bulelani Matshoba strives to make his mark in the Tru FM Presenter Search, he invites his community and supporters to join him on this exciting journey.
