South Africa’s weather service issued a sixth level warning about the heavy rains across the province.

The local municipalities of King Sabata Dalindyebo, Nyandeni, Port St Johns, Ingquza Hill and Winnie Madikizela-Mandela expected to receive between 50-100 millimeters of rain.

Port st John’s Town has been closed because of flooding caused by the heavy rainfall that has begun. Rain showers have caused damage on roads due to falling trees on the road from town to Nkampini.

Port St John’s Ganda Ganda residence forum chairperson Jessie Willard confirmed that heavy rainfall had to flood again in Port St Johns. She said that some people throw away furniture every year to restart with no assistance, others have still been unable to return to their houses since last year.

The Executive Mayor is asking people to avoid crossing flooded rivers and lakes they should evacuate to high lying areas where necessary.On the 23 March 2023, heavy rainfall leading to flooding in Port St Johns area left residents displaced.
