To equip the youth with the right knowledge concerning green careers and indigenous knowledge systems, the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality organized the Enviro Career Expo 2025. The event targeted Grade 11 and 12 students educating them on how to make subject choices that resonate with environment-centric and indigenous career opportunities.
Learners from several local schools — including Baleni SSS, Nomagqwathekana Comprehensive Tech, Nongeke SSS, Bizana Village, Didi SPS, Ndunge JSS, Ebenezer JSS, Ncingo SPS, and Cangci Comprehensive Tech — took part in the educational expo. Various government departments and institutions that specialize in indigenous studies were also present to showcase career opportunities and guide learners.
The event placed a strong emphasis on the importance of aligning subject choices with emerging environmental careers and traditional knowledge sectors, which are gaining recognition in both academic and policy spaces.
Municipal representatives commended the learners for their interest and highlighted the importance of sustainable development and cultural preservation as vital components of South Africa’s future workforce.
