Majola location

Communities at Majola village in Port St Johns had been fighting and killing each other for over two decades. Some families end up fleeing from their homes because of fear, until today the reason behind the fight is still unclear even though hundreds of people have been killed, some injured and houses burnt down. The situation has even made it difficult for some learners to go to school.

Last month Minister of Community Safety in Eastern Cape Xolile Nqatha together with Police Commissioner Luitenent General Nomthetheleli Mene, hosted an Imbizo in Majola. The aim of the Imbizo was to find solutions and bring peace and harmony within the communities of Majola.

It seems like the efforts of bringing peace have failed because the war has started again and just recently four houses in Lwandlana at Majola have been set alight and a young man was shot. According to the report released by police, atwenty-two young male was shot from the upper body and was rushed to the nearest hospital for further medical attention.

Police said in the early hours of the morning on Monday 19th September, they received a tip-off about a shootout incident that was happening in Lwandlana and upon their arrival they four houses were burning.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana said,

A case of attempted murder and arson have been opened for investigation, no one has been arrested yet. Circumstances surrounding the incident are under police control.
