The Brazilians dominated the match, enjoying almost 80% possession throughout the game. Tashreeq Matthews opened the scoring in the seventh minute with an impressive backheel effort, followed by Bathusi Aubaas’ driving shot into the bottom corner of the net in the 27th minute.

Despite being reduced to 10 men in the second half after Matthews received a second yellow card, Sundowns held on to secure the win. The team’s defense remained solid, preventing Mpheni Home Defenders from scoring.

Sundowns’ victory sets them up for a quarterfinal showdown in the Nedbank Cup, with the draw yet to be announced.

Mamelodi Sundowns will look to build on this momentum as they return to Betway Premiership action.
