Chiefs Strike Early, Pirates Respond Strongly

Chiefs got off to a dream start when Makabi Lilepo scored just 2 minutes into the match, sending Amakhosi fans into a frenzy. But the early goal only seemed to spark the Buccaneers into life.

Evidence Makgopa levelled matters in the 24th minute, taking advantage of a defensive lapse to equalise. Pirates continued to grow in confidence and dominance as the match wore on.

Their persistence paid off in the 69th minute, when Relebohile Mofokeng found the back of the net, giving Pirates a 2–1 lead that they would hold onto until the final whistle.

Late Red Card for Chiefs

Chiefs’ frustrations were compounded deep into stoppage time when Bradley Cross received a red card in the 90+1st minute, ending the game on a sour note for the home side.

The win not only gives José Riveiro’s side bragging rights in Johannesburg but also ensures they’ve completed a clean sweep over Chiefs in the 2024/25 DStv Premiership season.
