The Department of Community Safety, through the Buffalo City District Office, hosted a Boxing Against Crime Tournament at Vulindlela Police Station in NU 12 Mdantsane Township on 29 November 2025. The tournament attracted hundreds of young people who used boxing to promote safety and positive behaviour.
What Happened
The Boxing Against Crime Tournament brought together young athletes from across Mdantsane. Participants competed in several divisions and later received trophies and medals for their efforts. The event aimed to encourage discipline, promote healthy lifestyles, and steer youth away from crime.
The programme featured respected boxing legends Prof Makepula and Sakhumzi Magxwalisa, who encouraged the young boxers to pursue sport as a positive alternative.
Their presence added prestige and motivation to the day’s activities.
Official Response
The event was supported by Member of the Mayoral Committee Amanda Myute from the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality. She said the city valued programmes that uplifted young people and strengthened community safety. Officials from the Department of Community Safety also expressed appreciation for the strong turnout and reaffirmed their commitment to using sport as a crime-prevention tool.
According to the Department, the tournament formed part of broader efforts to promote safety education and involve youth in constructive activities.
Community Impact
The tournament drew families, athletes, and community leaders, creating a positive environment at Vulindlela Police Station. Residents said events like this helped build unity and exposed young people to role models who promote discipline and resilience.
