Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has announced his final 23-man squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, trimming down the last 54-man preliminary list. The tournament kicks off in Morocco in December 2025, with South Africa set to open against Angola on 22 December.
What Happened?
Broos confirmed the squad on 01 December 2025, with several young stars earning their place. Orlando Pirates midfielder Relebohile Mofokeng returns after recovering from injury, boosted by a Man of the Match performance during his last match.
Supersport United forward Shandre Campbell also makes the final squad, adding fresh attacking options for the national team.
The selection includes core regulars Teboho Mokoena, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Ronwen Williams, and Sphephelo Sithole, all of whom featured in the 2024 AFCON, where Bafana secured a bronze medal.
Burnley striker Lyle Foster returns after missing the previous Afcon due to mental health challenges, offering Bafana added firepower up front.
Newcomers likely to experience their first AFCON include Sipho Mbule, Mohau Nkota, Khulumani Ndamane, and Mbekezeli Mbokazi.

Official Response
Announcing the squad, Broos emphasized balance and readiness:
“We have experience, hunger, and players returning with strong form. Now we focus on preparing well in camp,” he said.
The team will assemble at the High-Performance Centre in Pretoria on 8 December to begin final preparations.
Community Impact
Football fans across the country have shown excitement, especially with the return of Mofokeng and Foster. Local supporters say the blend of young talent and experienced leaders offers renewed hope for a deep AFCON run.
South Africa has been drawn in Group B, facing Angola, Egypt, and Zimbabwe.
