AmaZulu Football Club has made a significant statement of intent ahead of the second round of the Betway Premiership campaign, announcing the signings of experienced central midfielder Bongani Zungu and versatile defender Sandile Mthethwa.

The duo, both free agents, have put pen to paper on permanent contracts with Usuthu after undergoing satisfactory medicals. Club President Sandile Zungu welcomed the pair during Tuesday afternoon’s AmaZulu Fan Experience.

Mthethwa, a 27-year-old defender from Empangeni in northern KwaZulu-Natal, joins AmaZulu after a stint with Orlando Pirates. The defender expressed his pride and determination to make a lasting impact at Usuthu.

“I will do everything in my power to make my mark in AmaZulu’s history, lift my family name, and help the club return to the top four,” Mthethwa said. “I appreciate AmaZulu’s belief in me, and I’m eager to repay them by working hard on the field.”

Mthethwa also revealed that he feels at home at AmaZulu, citing the club’s proximity to his birthplace and his desire to earn the badge.

Meanwhile, former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Bongani Zungu brings a wealth of experience to AmaZulu. The 32-year-old is thrilled to be working with co-coaches Vusumuzi Vilakazi and Arthur Zwane.

“My personal objectives are to help the team reach the top of the log table, support the younger players, and contribute my experience to the team,” Zungu stated. “I’ve won trophies everywhere I’ve played, and I want to bring that winning mentality here as well.”

Zungu, who was born in Duduza, east of Johannesburg, is eager to add to AmaZulu’s trophy cabinet and is looking forward to working with the team’s coaching staff.
