The ongoing search of a high school pupil from the community of ward 24 has come to an unfortunate end, after her body was found at Mdumbi beach on 20 October 2023.

The school pupil was on her way back from school when she attempted to cross a flooded river, but unfortunately drowned on 16 October 2023. The community of Ward 24, under Nyandeni Local Municipality heeded the call to search for the missing pupil but unfortunately the search was not successful until recently, where the learner’s deceased body was discovered. Nyandeni Local Municipality’s Honourable Mayor, Cllr. Viwe Ndamase would like to extend his sincerest condolences to the family of the young learner and urges communities with areas affected by floods due to heavy rains reported by the South African Weather Services to exercise caution and be extra vigilant, as various localities in the Eastern Cape are expected to experience severe weather conditions this weekend.

People are urged not to cross flooded rivers or areas and exercise extra caution by listening to weather updates in order to be informed.
