As millions of South Africans rely on the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant to meet their basic needs, a powerful new online tool is helping recipients check their SASSA grant status with greater accuracy and ease. Designed to handle over 1,500 requests per second, the tool provides real-time access to application approvals, appeal outcomes, and official payment dates for the R370 grant — an increase from the previous R350 amount.

April 2025 Payment Schedule Confirmed

For recipients approved for the April cycle, the SRD R370 grant will be disbursed from Tuesday, 25 April through Sunday, 30 April, between 09:00 and 17:00 daily. Additionally, payment dates for all grant types — including older persons, disability, and children’s grants — have been published through to December 2025.

SASSA Grants Payment Dates:

  • Older Persons Grant: Paid on the 2nd or 3rd of each month.
  • Disability Grant: Paid immediately after the older persons grant.
  • Children’s Grant: Paid the day following the disability grant.

Simplified Status Checks and Appeals
Beneficiaries can now check their status via multiple platforms, including:

  • The official SASSA website (srd.sassa.gov.za)
  • WhatsApp (0600 123 456)
  • Moya App
  • GovChat (www.govchat.org.za)
  • USSD codes: 1203210# or 12069277#
  • Retail stores like Shoprite and Pick n Pay
  • SASSA toll-free helpline: 0800 60 10 11

Appeal processes are available for those whose applications have been declined, with outcomes communicated within 90 days. Common reasons for declined applications include income above the threshold (R624/month), receiving other government support, or failed identity verification.

Why the SRD Grant Matters in 2025

The continuation of the SRD grant is crucial amid rising poverty levels. A World Bank report estimates that 63% of South Africans may be living in poverty by 2026. The grant not only provides a financial lifeline but also contributes to local economies and job creation. It supports entrepreneurship, helps recipients cover education and healthcare needs, and promotes social stability during economic uncertainty.

Who Qualifies for the R370 Grant? To qualify in 2025, applicants must:

  • Be between 18 and 60 years old
  • Be unemployed or earn less than R624/month
  • Not receive other social grants (except child support)
  • Be a South African citizen, refugee, or asylum seeker with valid documents

Security and Accessibility All personal data entered into status-checking platforms is end-to-end encrypted, ensuring user privacy. Beneficiaries are urged to regularly verify their application and banking details to avoid payment delays.

With extended payment dates and broader eligibility outreach, the SRD grant remains a critical pillar in South Africa’s fight against poverty and unemployment.
