As part of efforts to educate and empower young people about the environment, Pondoland Pride has announced a new partnership with iThuba Wild Coast Community College to launch a vibrant Environmental Club aimed at cultivating a generation of eco-conscious young leaders.
During a site visit to the college in Port St Johns, Pondoland Pride Director Mzolisi Msuthu Madikizela met with school staff and toured the facilities, setting the stage for an exciting collaboration rooted in sustainability, climate awareness, and community action.
“This initiative is more than just a club — it’s an investment in young people and their future,” said Madikizela.
The Environmental Club will engage learners in hands-on green projects, such as:
- Establishing a school food and indigenous garden
- Learning practical climate change solutions
- Participating in citizen science activities that promote biodiversity and conservation
This program forms part of Pondoland Pride’s wider mission to nurture future custodians of the region’s rich natural heritage.
To make the club a success, the organisation is calling on the broader community, local businesses, and well-wishers to contribute. Support is needed in the form of:
- Gardening tools, seeds, gloves, compost, and soil
- Water tanks, shade netting, and small-scale infrastructure
- Educational posters, books, or climate-related learning materials
- Any other in-kind donations or sponsorships
“Together, let’s grow something impactful,” Pondoland Pride stated in its appeal.
Organisations or individuals who would like to support this transformative youth initiative can get in touch directly with Pondoland Pride.
