Pick n Pay Recalls Certain Peanut Butter Brands Nationwide Due to Health Concerns

In response to health concerns, Pick n Pay has initiated a nationwide recall of specific peanut butter products sold under the labels No Name Smooth Peanut Butter, Eden Smooth Peanut Butter, and Eden Crunch Peanut Butter. The recall encompasses all stocks of these products from Pick n Pay stores across the country. The decision to recall these items follows the detection of higher than regulated levels of Aflatoxin during in-house standard testing, which may pose a health risk to consumers.

In a statement issued by Pick n Pay, a company emphasized the priority placed on customer health and safety, stating, “The health and safety of our customers is our priority.” Customers who have purchased any of the recalled peanut butter products are urged to return them to any Pick n Pay store for a full refund. This applies to products with expiry dates ranging from now until July 2025. The statement further added, “If any customer has concerns, they are quite welcome to return these products whether or not they fall within this expiry date, or whether products have been opened or not.”

Aflatoxin, a naturally occurring mycotoxin, was found to exceed regulatory thresholds in the affected products. Pick n Pay has promptly engaged with regulatory bodies including the National Consumer Commission and the National Department of Health, Directorate Food Control, to address the situation and ensure compliance with safety standards.
