Mthatha High Court Hears Sinenkani FC’s Case Against SAFA EC
The court’s decision is expected to have implications for match governance and rule enforcement across local football leagues.

Legal proceedings are currently underway at the Mthatha High Court, where Sinenkani FC is challenging the South African Football Association Eastern Cape (SAFA EC) over an alleged breach of SAFA competition rules. The case is being broadcast live via Khiwa Media TV on both Facebook and YouTube, following approval from the court.

The dispute stems from Sinenkani FC’s 25 January 2025 fixture against FC Ravens, during which a match commissioner was appointed despite claims of a direct or indirect relationship with one of the teams — a move the club argues violates Rule 30.1 of the SAFA Competition Uniform Rules.

After failing to receive satisfactory redress through SAFA’s internal mechanisms, Sinenkani FC brought the matter before the court. The hearing, initially set for 1 April, was postponed to today to allow SAFA EC to file their answering papers.

“We maintain that this case is about fairness and the integrity of our competitions. The use of officials with possible conflicts of interest undermines the credibility of the game,” a Sinenkani FC representative stated.

The court’s decision is expected to have implications for match governance and rule enforcement across local football leagues.

Spectators, fans, and stakeholders are encouraged to follow the live court proceedings via Khiwa Media TV to stay informed about the case’s developments.
