More than 20,000 arrested suspects for various crimes

The police have arrested more than 20 000 suspects over the last two weeks for various crimes ranging from murder to rape.
This follows the Police National Safer Festive Seasons which is currently underway with a theme of combating crime through decisive police action and robust community action.
The operations are running concurrently with Operation Shanela and will ensure heightened police visibility throughout the festive season period.
The National Commissioner of Police,  General Fannie Masemola, says since its inception on May 8 to date the high-density operation has resulted in the arrest of 184 205 suspects for various crimes including, murder, rape, and assault GBH.
In the Eastern Cape, police in Gqeberha nabbed three suspects in the process of hijacking a Mercedes-Benz minibus.
The trio was found in possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition and all suspects have been charged with attempted highjacking, possession of a firearm, and ammunition.
